The Young Actors Summer Workshop
Acting - Improv - Musical Theatre
July 8 - July 12 from 8:30am - Noon
Grades 4 - 6 / Maximum of 16 actors
ABOUT THE YOUNG ACTORS WORKSHOP CAMP (Grades 4 - 6)
Here we will explore the beginning concepts of acting and musical theater. We will spend the first 2.5 hours on acting and the last hour on musical theater. Acting will be taught by using theater games, improvisation, storytelling, role-playing and scripted material. Musical theater will be taught by using familiar songs from classic Broadway shows and films to teach the basics of musical theater performance: Vocal technique and basic choreography. Campers are gently encouraged to stretch their imaginations, and discover the endless creativity inside themselves. As always, the emphasis is on having fun!
IS THERE A FINAL PERFORMANCE? Yes, but we like to call it an informance. The session will end in a 30 minute “open class” where parents and friends can watch how we work. This is a non-result oriented program where the emphasis is on discovering our own creativity and NOT on creating a big show! It is an informal performance- an informance!

A workshop for those who wish to further hone their acting skills.
During Week One we will explore characters and relationships on a deeper level. Students will discover how action and behavior shape characterization. They will focus on tracking their character's journey through scenes and monologues; articulating the essential elements of building a character, playing objectives, fighting through obstacles and trying to resolve the conflict in the scene. They will also be introduced to the fundamentals of improvisation. In Week Two, the actors will then apply all of the these skills by rehearsing and performing in a professional showcase of monologues, scenes or one act plays.
